Oscars 2011

The ones that I have watched, rating, and some comments.

  1. Black Swan – (8/10) – Natalie Portman deserves the Best Actress Oscar for this one. Awesome performance! Mila Kunis was good too. Also, Darren Aronofsky should get the Best Director.
  2. The Fighter – (8/10) – Christian Bale so deserves the Best Supporting Actor for this one. Mark Whalberg is good too.
  3. Inception – (9/10) – Wow! Nolan and DiCaprio weave magic. But won’t win. Too nerdy for its own good!
  4. The Kids Are Alright – (7.5/10) – Good watch. The dude looks and acts like Abhay Deol 😛
  5. The King’s Speech – (8.5/10) – Brilliant!! Colin Firth is in line for the Best Actor.
  6. Toy Story 3 – (9/10) – One of the best trilogies, ever! Did you eyes not become moist towards the end?
  7. True Grit (7/10) – Good watch, not Oscar material though. Hailee Steinfeld is good and might bag the Best Supporting Actress.

My choice for Best Movie so far would be Inception or Toy Story 3. But Inception is old, and Toy Story 3, well, animated, so they won’t get it. Black Swan would be my bet so far.

The ones I haven’t watched, but should over the weekend.

  1. 127 Hours
  2. The Social Network
  3. Winter’s Bone.

Strings attached!

Music is the one string that binds us all. And the number of times this has happened is just amazing.

  1. BITS – Psenti Oasis – Us calling STAR for “Ab naa jaa”
  2. Tk calling me from another concert last year.
  3. Kshitij and others calling me yesterday from ISB during a Strings concert! (I am so disappointed at missing out)

This entire year, and the coming one, has been all about people getting married, with the rate of marriages now reaching a J shaped growth trajectory!! Seriously, its not even funny anymore. I have attended three weddings in the last month, missed three others (sorry guys), and will be attending at least three more in the next couple of months, and missing many more.

And all this while I have been wondering about how life will be once these people get married. Will we still hang out as much. Will we still have fun together.

But that one call from Kshitij made me feel I was there. In the midst of it all. Having fun. Maybe it won’t be so different after all.

Thanks guys! Keep rocking!

At Kolkata Airport

Things Kolkata Airport has:

  • Chaos
  • Decent eating options
  • A loo that smells as much as loos at local stations in Mumbai
  • A public address system – which sounds like one at a railway station and is so loud that you can barely make out what they are trying to say

Things Kolkata Airport doesn’t have:

  • Cleanliness – the pillars have posters stuck to them
  • Effective air conditioning
  • Free Wi-fi – seriously!!
  • Online baggage scanning

I was recently at the Chennai Airport and cribbed a lot about how it was light years behind the other airports in India (Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore – in that order). However, now that I have to spend a couple of hours at this one, I can safely say that this the worst of them all!!

I want what Hussey is smoking!

We need to get up to make sure we’re fourth to get into that. We’ve got a couple of years to continue the curve of getting better every time. I think our team is getting better all the time,” Hussey said.
